AI Software Engineer
Role overview
Queen City AI is hiring an AI Software Engineer to help build AI-powered software products and custom applications for our clients. This role is ideal for an early-career or mid-level engineer who wants hands-on experience building real AI applications, working with modern development tools, and shipping practical software that solves business problems.
This is an applied engineering role, not a pure research role. We are looking for someone who can build, test, learn quickly, and help turn ideas into working products.
What you'll build
- AI-powered applications, internal tools, and client-facing custom software solutions.
- Products that use large language models, automation, data workflows, APIs, and modern web frameworks.
- Software built with AI-assisted development tools while maintaining quality, reliability, and maintainable code.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy AI-powered applications and custom software solutions.
- Work with LLM APIs, AI development tools, automation platforms, and modern software frameworks.
- Collaborate with the team to understand client needs and translate those needs into working software.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools to move quickly while applying sound engineering judgment.
- Learn new tools, frameworks, and AI capabilities as the market evolves.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- Generally 1-4 years of software engineering experience preferred.
- Strong programming fundamentals and ability to build production-quality software.
- Experience with Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, APIs, databases, or modern web frameworks.
- Interest in AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, automation, and applied machine learning.
- Comfortable learning quickly and working in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with a small team.
Nice to have
- Experience building with OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases, or similar AI tools.
- Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
- Experience deploying applications to cloud platforms.
- Prior internship, startup, agency, consulting, or client-facing project experience.

You are curious, practical, and excited about building with AI. You may not have years of AI-specific experience yet, but you have strong engineering fundamentals, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly. You care about shipping useful software, not just experimenting with new tools.
